“With my diet I go all or nothing”
“I had a glass of wine last night so I’ll start my diet again on Monday”
“I just don’t have the willpower”
How often have you or someone you know said or thought something similar to the above?
All the above statements imply that when it comes to eating/dieting there is some element of perfection involved.
I’m here to say that striving for perfection in your diet is quite possibly the worst thing you can do if you want to make progress.
This desire for perfection is an enormous additional stress in your likely already stressful life (especially if you’ve got kids, a job, studies, others to look after or a combination of the above).
Frankly, this dietary perfection doesn’t really exist anyway.
No matter what anyone tells you, there is not a one sized fits all perfect diet.
You are your own unique little snowflake (sickeningly cheesy, but it’s true!) and your diet should be individualised to your goals and needs too.
We all have little slip ups from time to time, we’re only human after all.
Allow yourself a bit of fun, don’t put yourself through unnecessary suffering and let yourself loose from the constraints of dieting perfection.
