Weight training can be fun and fulfilling, but for those who have never done it before it can be daunting when you first step inside the gym. There are unfamiliar machines and loads of different weights to choose from. Without an idea of what to do and where to go it is intimidating.

What tips can help an amateur looking to weight train?

Improve Your Sleeping and Don’t Over Train – Sleeping is more important than you think for weight training. Make sure you have enough sleep each night so that your body is ready to go when you do hit the gym. Never train when you are tired as this can lead to exhaustion and injury.

Eat More – No matter what your specific goal is with weight training your body needs to be fuelled to have enough energy to perform during tough weight sessions. Always look to consumer more calories than you’ll be burning.

Incorporate Rest Days – Rest is vital in any form of training so plan your weight sessions well to ensure that at least once every 4 days you have a day off the weights. This allows your body to recover and repair itself. Overtraining leads to strains and injuries that could put you out of action for weeks and months.

Take Professional Advice – Lastly, take the professional advice of more seasoned weight trainers and the personal fitness guys in the gym. They can advise on technique and other aspects that you just wouldn’t know about.
